Harrison to Serve as VP for Adult and Professional Studies at Atlanta Christian

Atlanta Christian College announces the appointment of Dr. W. Darryl Harrison as vice president of adult and professional studies. Harrison comes to Atlanta Christian from Gadsden State Community College in Gadsden, Ala., where he served as president. Gadsden State has six campus locations and an online campus, and enrolls nearly 7,000 students. Prior to leading Gadsden State, Harrison served as vice president for academic affairs at West Georgia Technical College and in a variety of administrative roles at Northwestern Technical College.

"I am confident that Dr. Harrison is the right person to lead our Access program as it continues to grow and expand to multiple locations," said Dean C. Collins, president of Atlanta Christian. "I also want to thank Dr. John Morris for serving as interim vice president of the Access program, and I’m grateful that he will remain an important part of the Access team." Morris will continue to teach in the Access program, and will serve as director of special projects reporting to Harrison.

Harrison has 15 years of experience in higher education at a dean’s level or higher, and has also taught in the community and technical college systems. He has experience with student services, including advising, retention programs and enrollment. In his previous administrative roles, Harrison has developed and implemented programs for nontraditional students, including online and hybrid classes; accelerated class schedules; and evening and off-campus offerings. He also has experience in leading colleges through the SACS accreditation and reaffirmation processes.

Harrison is active in community and civic affairs, having served on the boards of a medical facility, three different area chambers of commerce, the United Way, and the American Heart Association.

Most importantly, Harrison is a committed Christian who welcomes this opportunity to contribute to Christian higher education. He is a graduate of Samford University, with a bachelor of arts in religion and philosophy; Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, with a master of arts in education; and the University of Alabama, with a doctor of education in instructional leadership focused in adult learning theory.

Harrison’s first day on campus will be November 15.

Ashworth College and Montgomery Job Corps Partner to Deliver Accredited High School Diploma Curriculum to Area Youth

/PRNewswire/ -- Ashworth College today announced that it has been named the exclusive provider of high school text books to Montgomery Job Corps. Ashworth, a leader in distance education, offers a wide range of flexible career-focused diploma and degree programs.

The Alabama Montgomery Job Corps affiliate and its national parent organization assist local youth, ages 16 through 24, to improve their quality of life through vocational and academic training. In combination with hands on career training, participating students complete core classes to fulfill graduation requirements.

"Our high school diploma programs have been developed to specifically address the needs of working adults and non-traditional high school students which makes Ashworth a natural fit," said F. Milton Miller, Ed.D. and Ashworth Vice President, Education.

"We're excited to be working with the Montgomery Job Corps Center. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, high school graduates can earn as much as 23% more per year compared to someone who did not receive their high school diploma.

Ashworth offers an extensive high school curriculum which includes high school correspondence courses and high school online diploma programs in general and college preparatory studies, vocational high school and a broad range of single high school courses.
